If you’re looking for a fantastic day out in the Charente for all the family, the Aventure Parc in Massignac is well worth a visit. Set in acres of beautiful woodland, this exciting adventure park has something for all the family. It’s an amusement park with a difference. As well as a small play park with swings and slides for the very small children, there are a host of activities for all ages from three years old to adults. Rope courses set high in the trees, bungee jumping and more!
Tree Climbing Adventure
The main attraction of Aventure Parc in Massignac is the tree climbing adventure. Rope walks, swings and obstacles, all high up in the trees. There are five different levels to choose from, starting at the blue and yellow levels, which are for the younger children, who have to be accompanied by an adult. Then green and red for the older children and adults and finally, the black level, which is pretty extreme!
As well as climbing to get into the trees, there are walkways, zip wires, and even a bicycle suspended over a narrow piece of wood to cycle along. The blue and yellow levels take about an hour, the green, blue and yellow takes about an hour and a half and finally, the blue, yellow, green, red and black levels takes about two hours.
There are also other activities at Aventure Parc in Massignac. Some aren’t for the faint-hearted – enjoy if you’re brave enough!
Other Activities at Aventure Parc Massignac
Airbag Jump
With this activity, there is a massive airbag on the ground, a bit like the ones in the movies for stuntmen to land on. You just climb a tower via steps and have the choice of jumping at 2.5 metres or at 5 metres. You get three jumps; and for your first jump, it is mandatory to jump from the lower height.
Bungee Jump
There is also the opportunity to do a bungee jump. This is the ideal safe environment as there are qualified instructors to guide you every step of the way. All you have to do is launch yourself, head first off the 15 metre high platform, with a piece of elastic around your feet and plummet earthwards!
Catapult
A new attraction at the Aventure Parc, Massignac, is the catapult. The catapult shoots you vertically 15 metres into the air. It is described as a rocket-like take off and weightlessness once you reach the top. Try it if you dare!
Quick Jump
This is another new attraction. Similar to a bungee jump, but you perform this whilst standing, rather than the head first bungee. It is reported to give you the illusion of a free-fall. You just have to climb the 15 metre tower first to be able to do the jump.
Safety at the park
Safety is absolutely paramount at Aventure Parc. Before anyone is allowed to go on any of the tree climbing levels, you have to take part in a safety demonstration run by qualified instructors. You will be shown how to put on and fasten all the safety equipment, which involves a harness and several hooks to attach to special safety wires on all the tree climbing areas. After the demonstration, you move to a practice area, which is only a couple of feet off the ground. You then spend the next 10 – 15 minutes practicing how to hook and unhook yourself and practice the safety features. These features ensure that only one hook can be undone at any time, so you are always attached to some part of the course at all times, so it is virtually impossible to fall and get injured. The instructors also patrol the tree climbing area and complete parts of the courses, ensuring no one is unsafe.
Fun at the Aventure Parc in Massignac
All in all, this is a fantastic day out for all the family. If you want to eat whilst you’re there, you can choose to bring your own picnic and eat in the wooded picnic area. Alternatively, you can eat in the onsite café. It serves a variety of fast food, such as burgers, chips, croque-monsieurs, sandwiches and salad; as well as hot and cold drinks and ice-cream.
You can choose to go as a family, or if you want to go in a group of more than 12 people, you need to book in advance. All opening hours and costs for the various activity packages can be found on the Aventure Parc website.
