L’Entrecôte Restaurant in Bordeaux

In English

L’Entrecôte was first opened in Toulouse in 1959 by Henri Gineste de Saurs. There are now 6 restaurants around France and in Barcelona, Spain. We first discovered L’Entrecôte in Bordeaux about 5 years ago, on the recommendation of a friend; and it has become a firm favourite. A prime example of a simple menu done well, a meal at L’Entrecôte will leave you sated and happy.

L’Entrecôte is located near the opera house in Bordeaux. You cannot make reservations, so remember to queue early – it is always busy!

Food at L’Entrecôte

There is only one thing served at L’Entrecôte – steak. So this isn’t a restaurant for vegetarians, sorry. You really only get a couple of questions asked when you arrive:

  • How do you want your steak cooked? (don’t ask for well done, it’s not a thing here)
  • And what wine do you want?

Later on you will also be offered a choice of desserts (if you have room)!

Starter

Things are kept simple, you don’t get a choice of starters. You are served a small and perfectly formed salad of lamb’s lettuce and walnuts. The light vinaigrette ensures this is a light salad, befitting for the heavy meal to come.

Main

You will be served around 170g of beautiful trimmed sirloin, cut and swimming in a peppery salty butter sauce. Delivered to your table on a large silver platter, it really is a sight to behold. Your server will pile beautifully crisp fries onto your plate – and you get unlimited refills of these delights.

The steak will melt in your mouth, and is served in a way that keeps it moist and flavourful. The butter sauce is unlike any other sauce I’ve ever tried. If you’re a fan of steak-frites, then L’Entrecôte should be on your list of things to do when you visit Bordeaux.

Dessert

Dessert is where you get the most options at L’Entrecôte. But whether you have room for much is another story. There are tarts, profiteroles, ice cream and all the usual favourites. I always try to leave room for the profiteroles – yum!

Dessert is extra on top of the fixed price of salad and steak.

  1. As a vegetarian I’m so sad I won’t be able to try this restaurant! It looks amazing for meat-eaters! The profiteroles definitely still look like something I would love!!

  2. I kind of appreciate the French way of serving food – it’s a no-frills attitude. Sometimes, I think we have too many options at restaurants in the States.

  3. That steak! My mouth is watering all the way over here in the U.S.

  4. LOL, I had to learn the hard way to stop asking the French to give me a well done steak! Now, I’m a vegetarian so problem solved. I would be very happy to go for dessert though, might have to take someone with that’ll eat my steak for me.

  5. I’m so trying this restaurant if there’s one around me. You make me hungry by your description. And the pictures support it!
